Do I need to pay for follow-up consultations?

Yes, you’ll need to pay for each follow-up consultation but there are no hidden fees. Each follow-up consultation with an Alternaleaf doctor costs €39.00, no matter what your care journey looks like.

Can I access Alternaleaf if I live outside of major cities

Yes, this is possible as long as you are resident in Germany. All appointments take place conveniently via video consultation with the treating doctors, regardless of where you are located.

If you are prescribed medicinal cannabis by a doctor, you will receive your medicine delivered directly to your home if you choose to redeem your private e-prescription at one of the mail-order pharmacies.

Do I need a doctor's referral to book an appointment with Alternaleaf?

No, you do not currently need a referral to book a video consultation with a doctor via Alternaleaf. Before you book your first appointment, simply complete our short 60-second questionnaire.

What happens during a consultation with a doctor and how is it carried out?

Once you have completed the 60-second questionnaire, you can book an appointment with a doctor treating you on the platform. During the video consultation, the doctor will ask you questions about your medical history, your current complaints and your previous experience with herbal medicines.

During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask questions so that your individual needs can be taken into account in the best possible way. The doctor will then draw up your personalised treatment plan and issue the corresponding private e-prescription.

When do I pay for medical treatment? Will I get a refund if I am not eligible for medical cannabis treatment?

Payment is only made once you have booked your appointment with a doctor. No costs are incurred before this step. You are not obliged to attend an appointment, even if you are eligible for treatment.

If, after treatment, your doctor decides that treatment with herbal medicine is not suitable for you, you will still have to pay for the consultation.

Can I postpone my doctor's appointment?

Yes, of course you can. You can reschedule your appointment easily and free of charge up to 24 hours before it is due to start. If the appointment is less than 24 hours in the future, we will ask you to cancel the appointment and book a new one. To change or cancel your appointment, simply click on the link in your confirmation email. You can also conveniently manage follow-up appointments via the Alternaleaf patient portal. If you need assistance, our patient service team will be happy to help you.

How do I cancel my consultation booking?

Cancelling is easy. Simply click cancel in your original booking confirmation email.

If you can’t find your email, reach out to our Patient Care team and they’ll help you out.

What is Alternaleaf's cancellation policy?

We need at least 24 hours’ notice to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Any less than that and you may be charged. This supports better access for all patients.

I had to cancel my doctor's appointment. How do I book a new appointment?

We kindly ask you to book through one of our emails or from our home page alternaleaf.de

What are the ongoing costs for alternative healthcare services at Alternaleaf and what support is included?

Everybody’s healthcare journey is a little different. So the ongoing costs differ as well, depending on your doctor’s recommendations. When you need to speak with your doctor, follow-up consultations cost €39.00

Your doctor will recommend when you should return for a follow-up. If you ever need to speak to our Patient Care team over the phone or email, that’s free.

Repeat prescriptions are issues one and two months after your consult with your doctor, this a fee of €19.00. As an Alternaleaf patient, you’ll get access to our support services from our Patient Care Team. If you have any questions while you’re with us, you can access support at info@alternaleaf.de

Is there a minimum age for using the platform?

Yes, our offer is currently aimed exclusively at adults with legal capacity. You must be at least 18 years old to use our platform

Insurance & Benefits

Will my health insurance cover the costs of medicinal cannabis?

Whether your health insurance covers the costs depends on the respective provider and tariff. We recommend asking your private health insurance provider directly in advance, as some private health insurers already reimburse part or even all of the costs. As only private medical treatments are carried out via Alternaleaf and therefore only private e-prescriptions can be issued, costs are not covered by statutory health insurance.

How do I obtain a follow-up prescription?

If you need a follow-up prescription, please book a follow-up appointment via the Alternaleaf patient portal, directly with your treating doctor.

Follow-up prescriptions are usually issued one and two months after your initial treatment, if indicated.to request a follow-up prescription, please send us an email to info@alternaleaf.de for forwarding to your treating doctor.

How much does a consultation with a doctor cost?

The doctors bill their medical treatment services themselves. Alternaleaf is not a medical service provider itself, but enables patients to contact doctors.Doctors charge for private medical treatment in accordance with the German Medical Fee Schedule (GOÄ). The medical video consultation including the prescription costs €39.

If your doctor determines during the consultation that treatment with medical cannabis is not suitable for you, the medical video consultation is completely free of charge for you.

Which pharmacies does Alternaleaf work with?

When an Alternaleaf doctor prescribes you alternative medicine, you can be confident knowing that the prescription is processed and dispensed by a local pharmacy of your choice. Our German-based partner pharmacies provide fast delivery service and a comprehensive range of reputable plant-based medicine brands.

Who is medicinal cannabis suitable for?
